Day 6 -- Class and Orientation
This morning I went to my second class, which went a lot better than the first one. It was still difficult, but I did a better job today than I did in the previous class and I was able to understand slightly more. During class, my conversation partner was a girl from Japan named Fukumi who I sit next to. We tried our best to talk to each other in Korean, which was difficult, but she seemed really nice.
After class, we had an orientation for the Japanese and English speakers. I talked to another Japanese girl from my class named Manami during the first part of the orientation and she was also really sweet! After the first part of orientation where we watched a video and learned about visas and attendance policies, we split into an English-speaking group and a Japanese-speaking group to get a tour of the campus. I had already seen all of the parts of campus that were on the tour, so I used the tour as an opportunity to talk to some of the other students. I met a few other people from the United States who I honestly didn't like very much, and then chatted with some of the Yalies at Ewha. I talked to Katie (another first year who got the Light Fellowship who I also don't particularly like) briefly, and then had a quick conversation with a guy named Fia who also got the Light Fellowship and just got his masters. I spent most of the tour talking to a guy named Noah who is also from Yale, but I hadn't met him before since he wasn't one of the fellowship recipients. We got along well and might meet up sometime again this summer.
After the tour, I was very hot after roasting in the sun, so I went back to my dorm. There isn't much to do on Mondays in Korea because lots of museums, restaurants, and attractions are closed, so I spent the afternoon doing homework and practicing my Korean. In the evening, I went to Mr. Seowang Mandu for dinner, where I had delicious xiaolongbao! I practiced some more Korean and took a shower after dinner before going to sleep.
