Day 7 -- Class and Museums

This morning I went to class, and today we had a new teacher (we have one teacher Mondays and Fridays, another teacher Tuesdays and Thursdays, and a third teacher on Wednesdays). I loved today's teacher; she spoke more slowly, spoke very clearly, and didn't assume that we knew vocabulary or grammar that we haven't officially learned in class. After class ended, I went back to the dorm to drop off my backpack and make a plan for the afternoon. I ended up going to Greek Day again for Greek yogurt with orange, grapefruit, and banana (I don't get fruit in my other meals and it is nice to get something fresh every now and then!).

I then took the subway to the Jongno District, where I first went to the Kumho Museum of Art. I went there last time I was in Korea and I loved it -- it always has a diverse collection of art, with each floor housing an exhibition for a different artist. This time, the museum was featuring works by the winners of the annual Kumho Young Artist program, which provides young artists with the opportunity to have their first solo exhibition. The first artist exhibited created massive, boulder-like sculptures crafted out of paper; the second artist made vibrant abstract paintings full of emotion and symbolism; and the third artist drew inspiration from contemporary landscapes, everyday objects, and disciplines like astronomy and physics to make dimension-bending paintings that were fascinating to look at.

My next stop was Gallery Hyundai, which had an exhibit focusing on the artist Kim Guiline, who made paintings full of repetitive grids and dots (in some paintings the dots were merely painted on and in others they were 3D). Many of the paintings initially appeared to be just one color, but as I looked at some of them longer or viewed them from the side, I saw more dimension. The works reminded me a lot of Mark Rothko and I really liked them.

I headed back to my dorm next and on my way stopped by Gong Cha for the first time since arriving in Korea. I had their new honey peach milk tea, which was delicious! When I got back to my room, I started studying for a vocabulary quiz we have tomorrow, taking a quick break to talk to Charlotte. After studying for a while, I went out to get some Chapagetti (a type of instant jjajjangmyeon) from a convenience store. After eating, I did some more homework before going to bed.
