Day 33 -- Insadong and The Painters
This morning I showered and studied for my midterm before meeting with Mom and Dad at Osegye Hyang, a vegan restaurant I used to go to a lot with my friends. We ordered bibimbap, dumplings, and sweet and sour fried chicken.
We went to Museum Kimchikan next, where we learned about the history of kimchi, its varieties, and how it is made. There were lots of fun videos and interactive features at the museum, but my favorite part was the kimchi tasting experience. We tried a tiny bit of whole cabbage kimchi, white cabbage kimchi, and stir-fried kimchi!
We went to Hanok Tea House next for coffee and traditional Korean desserts before going to my host dad's exhibition at KCDF Gallery. It was a joint exhibition with my host dad and 10 other weavers, and it was really fun to see especially because we usually don't see very much art of this nature in museums. I was very proud of my host dad because he had more works than any other artist in the exhibition, and he also wrote the exhibition summary!
We went back to the hotel to rest next before going to a show called The Painters. In it, four men danced and painted onstage using a variety of different art styles. The whole show was great and very impressive, but the best part was when Mom was picked out of the audience to go onstage and dance and interact with the performers. Mom was extremely in her element and was playing along with everything they were doing with great enthusiasm. She did such a good job that she was called onstage a second time to draw a portrait of one of the performers! After the show, people were coming up to Mom congratulating her on doing a good job, and one person even asked to take a selfie with Mom!
After the show, we walked through pouring rain to go to Hangaram, a really nice restaurant. We got a ton of side dishes like seaweed, rice, soup, kimchi, oysters, onion pancakes, and more, and also got main dishes of eel, galbi, and buckwheat noodles with crab.
Afterwards, I went back to my dorm and did some homework before going to bed.
