Day 39 -- Namsan Tower

This morning I met up with Sandi, Sonia, and Adeline early so we could hike up from the base of Namsan Mountain to Namsan Tower itself. The hike was pretty miserable; even though we arrived early it was already in the 80s, and that combined with the fact that the hike was uphill and with seemingly never-ending steep stairs made it very difficult. We had to stop to take breaks a lot, and when we finally made it to the top, my clothes and hair were completely soaked with sweat.

When we got to the tower, we first got drinks at a convenience store and spent time in the AC to refresh ourselves. We then took the elevator to the observation deck at the top of the tower where we saw a 360 degree view of Seoul. The air wasn't super clear, but it was still a really amazing view.

A highlight of the tower was getting to use the extremely famous bathrooms there. The bathrooms have one glass wall that looks out into Seoul, but since you are so high up no one can see you while you are using the bathroom!

After looking at the souvenir stores and admiring the view at the tower, we went back down to the base where we ate a lunch of naengmyeon, dumplings, potato pancake, and a fried beef dish.

After eating, we walked around the outdoor area around the tower where we saw more beautiful views and all of the locks people cover the fences with.

We walked down afterwards, which was substantially less painful than the hike up. Namsan Tower is close to Myeongdong, so we headed there for some bingsu as a refreshing treat given the heat. We got a chocolate bingsu and an injeolmi and red bean bingsu!

Finally, in the evening we went back to our dorms. I was completely wiped out from the hike and ate food in my room, showered, and went to bed.
